The City of Suwanee lists twelve park and trail pages, and lists three Gwinnett County parks nearby. They are not interchangeable. A disc golf course, a double gym and a splash fountain sit in different places, and so does the rulebook. Below is a short Gwinnett County parks list, sorted by use, covering the parks near Suwanee, GA around Young Creek.
Parks in Suwanee, GA: two operators, two sets of hours
The city runs its own parks, which are generally open sunup to sundown. Gwinnett County runs George Pierce Park, Peachtree Ridge Park and Settles Bridge Park. Information and rentals at all three go through one number, 678.277.0910.
Three parks on Young Creek’s roads
Young Creek’s site plan puts the community on Buford Highway and Suwanee Creek Road. Three parks have addresses on those same two roads.
- Suwanee Creek Park, 1170 Buford Highway. An 85-acre city park and the southern greenway trailhead. It has an 18-hole disc golf course, which the city describes as short and technical, and a 19-marker orienteering course, announced in 2021, where you navigate by compass. It also has two pavilions and picnic tables, per the same newsletter, and restrooms, per Suwanee Magazine.
- George Pierce Park, 55 Buford Highway. At 304 acres it is the largest of the three, and the park for organized sport. It has five youth soccer fields, seven youth baseball and softball fields, two adult softball fields, a double gym and an indoor walking track. The football and multipurpose field is open for unorganized use unless reserved, so call before bringing a ball.
- Peachtree Ridge Park, 3170 Suwanee Creek Road. A 154-acre county park with a one-mile paved trail, two soccer fields, outdoor basketball courts, a playground, a pavilion, a grill and a community garden. Its ball field and playground are accessible.
The greenway connects them
The Suwanee Creek Greenway runs between Suwanee Creek Park and George Pierce Park, with parking at both ends. At George Pierce Park the county also lists a trailhead and parking for the Ivy Creek Greenway, which it says connects to the Suwanee Creek Greenway. Park at either end of the Suwanee Creek Greenway and walk toward the other.
In April 2024 Gwinnett opened an Ivy Creek Greenway expansion from Westbrook Road into George Pierce Park. It added a 1,500-foot concrete boardwalk through wetlands, a bridge across Suwanee Creek, 25 parking spaces and a bike repair station.
Green space in Suwanee: matching the park to the weekend
Quality counts alongside size. A 2025 systematic review of 22 studies in Land found that natural elements, especially vegetation diversity and water features, showed consistent positive associations with mental wellbeing, while accessibility showed mixed results. It is a review of mostly cross-sectional studies, so read it as a pattern, not a prescription.
Three places on this list have water: the lake at Sims Lake Park, the pond at George Pierce Park and the wetland boardwalk on the Ivy Creek Greenway.
| If the weekend is… | Go to | What is there |
|---|---|---|
| Disc golf or a compass course | Suwanee Creek Park | 85 acres, 18 holes, 19 markers |
| League games or a wet-day walk | George Pierce Park | Youth and adult fields, indoor track |
| A paved one-mile trail | Peachtree Ridge Park | 154 acres, playground, community garden |
| A splash fountain and open lawn | Town Center Park | Big Splash: 43 jets, 1,400 gallons of recycled water a minute |
| A lake walk | Sims Lake Park | 1.2-mile paved trail, playground with shade structures |
| A dog area or a skate complex | Settles Bridge Park | County park, 380 Johnson Road, with the only dog park in Suwanee, per Suwanee Magazine |
Choose by amenity. Suwanee Creek Park and Peachtree Ridge Park are the two worth comparing first: the city has left one in its natural condition, and the other has the courts.
Drive time: what is published and what is not
Suwanee Town Center is six minutes from Young Creek by car. Young Creek has not published drive times to the other parks. Time them yourself.
A townhome sized for the way you use these parks
The four-bedroom, 2,807-square-foot townhome in Buildings 1 and 2 keeps the gear downstairs. The entry level holds a two-car garage and a separate storage room, so disc bags, soccer cleats and bikes have a place to go before the stairs. The living floor is the second floor. The 7.5mm rigid vinyl plank flooring, the smart doorbell and the smart thermostat are standard.
Schedule a tour, see what is standard in every home, then drive the three parks on Buford Highway and Suwanee Creek Road yourself.
